FAQ

This is new, so contact us if you have questions and I might add it to the FAQ!

  • Do you shrink wrap the furniture?
ONLY if you provide the shrinkwrap* and pay us extra to do that. But we do sometimes have some shrinkwrap with us, and use it on select things that need it (like anything with a drawer or door that might open (and we aren't taking the drawers out when moving the item). Our way of moving furniture is usually carefully carry it out to the container/truck, then place a blanket over the furniture to protect it during transportation.
  • Why is it so expensive to move only 300 miles from Vegas to LA?
Where do I start?! Ok, many variables. We'll use most current bid I sent for a move for Dec 13, 2022: First of all: it's probably MORE than 300 miles, once you factor in the TOTAL job! The move: fairly big since lots of NICE furniture, some HEAVY yet delicate stuff, stacking washer/dryer we need to squish into tiny closest to unhook, take out, fairly complex bed that needs unassembled then reassembled. Lots of blankets & some shrink wrap needed, mattress bag(s), etc. Both places are single story. I've moved this stuff before recently intown. Need 4 of us to do the loading. 3 of us going to LA (1 stays in vegas), hire 2 guys there to help unload (one guy could do, but not much more for 2) 12th: We'll rent largest uhaul* (26'), load it, spend night in Vegas 13th: EARLY AM, I drive the uhaul to pickup my two guys (separate parts of town - so MORE miles for this than when you type in Vegas to LA!). Get to motel close to LA house, spend night. Note: 3 separate rooms, since we're 3 separate guys, and we need good sleep after long start, and BIG day the next morning! In the old days, Andrew & I would skip motel, unload that afternoon, drive 5 hours plus back to Vegas. Falling asleep on the way! 23 hour today day lots of the time! NO MORE! That was over a decade ago! 14th: unload early in morning! Note: you HAVE to do this if hiring guys to help you. I tried having us unload in SF in afternoon, but the movers had to cancel cause they took over jobs (double booked! boo!!). So only 2 of us did the work of 4. Horrible! Lunch, bit of sight seeing if time. Then fold all 48 blankets, refuel truck, clean it out, return truck. Uber to airport, and fly home. Then take 3 separate ubers to our homes. I can probably save some $ by not bringing 2 of my guys, or maybe just 1 of them (and hire more guys at new town). But there is a bit of risk of NOBODY showing up. SO: I have to hire two sets of guys. That way if one flakes (that's a whole other story/question!), I (and client) aren't stuck! We can finish the job :-) Time is money! Example of this job for the buddy(s) I bring with me gas and time to drive to house and load up all the stuff. This job might take 5 hours (maybe even more, but I'm only charging client for up to 5 - remember: I've done this move in town before!) Drive 5 hours or so to LA (it ALWAYS takes a LOT longer to drive a big moving truck - especially with 3 of us squished in the front seat). I stop for fuel, bathroom/food break(s) as needed. Drive EXTRA safe since all nice stuff of client is in back of truck. I CAN'T drive as fast as a person in their little car! Get motel, find a good/safe as possible spot to park the giant truck, walk back and forth to motel (sometimes it's a block or so away). Next morning: go to new place, find best parking spot, greet the LA guys (hopefully!), unload all the stuff, unwrap some things, put bed together, washer/dryer where they go, etc. - this job, I'm GUESSING 3-5 hours. Then return truck (takes a while with cleaning out, folding the blankets, refueling, standing in line....). Take uber to airport. Gotta be there at least 2 hours early nowadays. Wait with all the coughing crowds. Fly home. Wait for uber (that you can't even see in the horrible LAS pickup area!). Get home! * rent uhaul (I have to uber to get truck): currently with the pandemic or whatever, it's RARE that the truck and location you reserve works out! Expect NO truck there, other location changes (I did one where NO TRUCK in all of Las Vegas! We had to drive about 100 miles towards Utah to get it!). THEN: they didn't have the blankets or dollies I needed! Had to go to other locations, and then, still didn't get all of them. Etc etc etc. PENSKE and budget are WORSE!?!?!
